Play with nature
Play with Nature is a research and experiential center operating within the company Intuition Music.
Its purpose is to encourage people toward broader awareness, the activation of their own potential, and the reawakening of sensitivity.
Through various experimental artistic projects, and through art, nature, and space, Play with Nature opens and illuminates something that humanity likely understood better in the past than today — the connection between sky and earth, nature, architecture, and oneself.
Project Avditorij Portorož
In co-production with Avditorij Portorož–Portorose, the Play with Nature project uses several venues of the Avditorij that together form ATMG (Avditorij, Tartini Theatre, Media Dom, and Grando).
The goal of this collaboration is to create an active audience — an audience that is not only a passive listener, but becomes part of the experience itself. For this reason, the spaces are divided into different segments that enable various ways of participation and perception.
Tartini Theatre is transformed into an open recording studio, where music recordings connected with nature are created, alongside open studio sessions with artists.
At Avditorij Portorož, live act events take place — multimedia performances based primarily on body movement, where musicians create together with dancers, light, video, and other artistic elements as an expression of the moment and the body.
The audience can participate actively — through movement and dance — or simply observe and listen.
Media Dom functions as a research center, where seminars, meetings, and guided musical journeys are held on the themes of sound perception, space, and nature.
Grando becomes the venue for the annual Play with Nature festival, presenting various artistic programs connected to the exploration of the relationship between humans, nature, space, and art.
How Play with Nature Projects Work
The projects function by using nature as a starting point — as a sound recording, image, video recording, energetic value of a space, or nature as ourselves, since we are not separate from nature.
Artists arrive and may take inspiration from nature to create or perform based on the inspiration they receive in that moment — whether consciously from the space, the sound of nature recordings, images of nature, or another feeling that appears in the present moment.
Research emerges when something that initially seems illogical or meaningless is combined — something that comes to mind and appears unimportant. Yet it is often in such moments that learning happens. When a person falls, they always learn something, and such a process can therefore lead to rapid growth.
In music, musicians, through inspiration and within a certain framework that we establish, narrow their possibilities and direct themselves toward something they do not yet know. When they surrender to the process, it leads them toward new forms of expression.
In movement, the starting point lies within the human being and within the earth. The exploration focuses on how sound moves the body, how the body spontaneously reacts to certain sounds, and what kinds of movements would emerge if the sounds that compose music were allowed to directly influence the body.
In this way, a person becomes an expression of themselves. When someone moves beyond something already known, they may discover something they have always carried within themselves.
This approach also emerges from the research of sound, space, and nature developed by Gaber Radojević and Rok Petirč within Intuition Music and Play with Nature.
